Impressionist Watercolors and Etchings by Edgar Degas and Jean-Louis Forain in Manhattan, New York For Sale
Many important 19th-Century French Impressionists portrayed Parisian ballet dancers in their art. The most notable Impressionist master whose art included dancers was Edgar Degas. Jean-Louis Forain was another Impressionist who based works on ballet dancers. (In fact it was Degas who introduced Forain to the Parisian ballet scene.) Degas also created works that showed people engaged in everyday activity, often viewed from unusual angles. J D Smith Fine Art is currently offering works by Degas and Forain.
An original etching by Degas titled, Dancers in the Wings, shows dancers staged behind scenery, poised to make their appearance on stage at the right moment. Another original etching by Degas shows laundresses at their work, viewed from across the room. COAs available. The second watercolor is titled Dancer and Her Dresser. It shows a dancer in the foreground in the final stages of preparing for a performance, with an older woman helping her in the background.
