Fall Internship in Fashion and Theatre Industries for Law Student in Manhattan, New York For Sale

Seller:
Type: Office Work, For Sale - Private.

The Dramatists Guild of America, Inc. and the Law Office of David H. Faux, P.C. are seeking a highly motivated law student to assist in-house counsel with theatre and entertainment matters. The position is unpaid, though school credit might be available. Interested parties must send a cover letter and resume to davefaux@dhf-law.net. Candidates should be prepared to provide a writing sample and professional recommendation upon request.
The Guild is a trade association serving authors, librettists, lyricists, and composers for the stage. We deal with contracts connected to a broad range of theatrical entities, from the community theater operating on a shoestring in West Virginia, to the hundred-page documents involved with such Broadway shows as Wicked, Anything Goes, and Follies. The Law Office is a growing intellectual property practice handling trademark and copyright with particular focus in fashion and other creative industries.
The Associate Intern will wrestle with the complex issues of intellectual property on a daily basis as they relate to arts, entertainment, and the theatre and fashion industries in particular. This internship involves: reviewing contracts; learning business standards and conveying them to Guild members and Law Office clients; assisting with public speeches, panels, and other events; observing meetings between the Director of Business Affairs and members as well as industry leaders; performing legal research on detailed and/or new issues of law; drafting contracts based on firm templates; reviewing and drafting correspondence to clients and adversaries; assisting in forming and advising corporations; coordinating with the State Bar's Fashion Law Committee. Clerical and administrative support is "fair game," though far overshadowed by the substantive assignments. Every Associate Intern writes an article for the Guild's magazine, The Dramatist.
Requirements:
- Available to start in September until late November
- 15-30 hours per week;
- follow-through on projects;
- good listening and writing skills combined with an eye for detail;
- firm command of the English language;
- ability to follow instructions and ask clarifying questions to ensure tasks are done correctly and efficiently;
- a disciplined work ethic and ability to get along with others (this internship will take place in the Guild office).
