Marketing Manager Company Location New York city Department Sales and Marketing Job Description At the heart of this role is someone who drives W culture through every facet of the business on property and assumes leadership of this function day-to-day. The MM works closely with property W Insider, B&F director, L&D manager, property Music Curator, NA DOM, W brand communications team, other NY MMs and regional MM. The role reports to property GM/DOSM, with dotted line to the NA property marketing director. Requirements The ideal candidate will be proficient in building influencer relationships, a local creative community and have a strong sense of counter culture (music, fashion and design) within the city. In addition, must be a clear communicator, able to lead collateral design and production, have strong event management skills. An understanding of print and online media platforms as well as social media and the ability to connect across a diverse stakeholder network is essential. Annually the MM will draft, present and execute W New York - Union Square marketing plan on property with a focus on delivering credible, tone-setting, buzzworthy and revenue driving initiatives and deliver marketable W content. W Happenings structure and content is based on the brand passion points and our core values. MM candidates must understand this culture and be savvy to work closely with the W Insider and L&D manager to drive W Culture both internal and externally. W NEW YORK - UNION SQUARE BASED SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Create and execute annual hotel marketing and PR plans. Working alongside B&F teams develop regular programming calendars, and key showcase Happenings. Secure programming budgets and keep regular tracker updated. Become leader and main advocate for W culture on property. Develop initiatives around brand passion points driving guest experience and business goals. Drive and police all brand and property content both on and offline. Understand the business goals and regularly appraise and evaluate initiatives. W NEW YORK - UNION SQUARE HAPPENNINGS Conceptualize and drive regular programming with B&F teams that generate word of mouth and positive PR traction. Set goals around regular programming, key weekly happenings and communicate updates among hotel teams. Drive footfall towards B&F venues with awareness of revenue goals. Manage overview and status documents leading all events. Lead creative input, managing of budgets, all collateral design and production. Update and manage Happenings page on independent hotel websites INFLUENCER COMMUNITY Drive the Insider Collective (local creative community) as a way to building local creative base who support and partner on happenings and programming. Introduce and develop partners within music, fashion and design. Drive partnerships that strengthen B&F offerings and programming. Work with regional MM and national DOM to build creative connections locally and to share best practice nationally. W NEW YORK UNION SQUARE REVENUE GENERATION Work with sales team to drive RPI, new collateral and packages (as relevant). Create schedule of pre and post stay marketing messages based on calendar and need periods. React to meetings/banqueting and room sales forecasts with appropriate sales/field marketing assistance. Work with FM to optimize, design and build relevant digital channels. Create music and fashion content for brand.com and local property sites. Connect FM teams to ensure quarterly campaigns are delivered on brand and sync in with property needs. Assist in connecting property to all Starwood internal sales channels. W NEW YORK UNION SQUARE DIGITAL Measure and evaluate the impact of all content and initiatives. Implement brand direction on new websites (internal/external), imagery and content. Manage OTA updates, text and photography Drive new ideas and pitch property happenings content to be loaded on brand content hubs. Maintain and coordinate all video and photography updates and audits. Manage photography process with Starwood approved photographers and loading/ maintaining Starwood Asset Library SOCIAL MEDIA Oversee strategy with Global Social Media Strategist on separating the social media handles per property and developing a plan to execute smoothly alongside the other Marketing Managers o Manage the @WHOTELSNYC Twitter and Instagram handles until we separate accounts. Respond to all guest inquiries, reviews, complaints both channels by sharing with appropriate TCs and teams at each property o Once separated, manage WUSQ Instagram handle and @WHOTELSNYC Twitter handle until that also gets separated. Manage W New York Union Square Facebook Page W NEW YORK UNION SQUARE COLLATERAL Brief all design collateral to outside agencies as required. Ensure all printed, electronic and guest facing material is on brand. Regularly appraise all material ensuring on brand and locally relevant. Ensure all hotel teams are proficient with brand standards when designing in house. W NEW YORK UNION SQUARE ADMINISTRATION Control and draft key budget trackers. Host key meetings, draft agendas and circulate contact reports. Manage office systems with coordinators. NEW YORK CITY WIDE PUBLIC RELATIONS FOCUSED RESPONSIBILITIES (SUPPORT AND COUNSEL FOR PROPERTY MARKETING MANAGERS) PR time allocation 20% and to be applied across all NEW YORK properties PR lead for Ws of New York (W New York, W New York Downtown, W New York Union Square, W New York Times Square, W Hoboken) Work with each MM and act as counsel to create a yearly PR plan/ timeline/ framework to be incorporated into their marketing plan for their property Sense check property projects for PR value Create a structure for how MM s report, meet, ask and feedback to PR Manager&agencies. With DOM North America brief and W brand PR team, organize and structure new PR agency set up. Provide strategic counsel on PR aspects of Property Marketing (not day-to-day) Actively maintain relationships with traditional and digital media in addition to management of PR agencies. Work in close partnership with agency and property MMs to help support PR strategy and execution. Sign off on all MM s press materials for their property including press releases, fact sheets, messaging, executive bios, and boiler plates. Develop briefing document templates and toolkits for media opportunities/ interviews for MMs to fill in for their GMs/properties. Lead crisis PR management for Ws of NY/NJ, in partnership with Starwood crisis team and hotel teams Utilize Starwood s PR and agency networks globally to promote Ws of NY/NJ in key feeder markets both domestically and abroad. Actively maintain relationships with travel bureaus, local alliances, event planners/PR, and potential partners to leverage for additional press opportunities. Support MMs for PR events at other properties in regards to media management. Assist and advise hotel teams to support the renovation and re-opening strategies from a PR/ media perspective JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities. Then be able to explain and demonstrate he or she can perform the essential functions of the job: Strong networker with natural flare for event planning and programming. Connected to the local scene or strong knowledge of what is locally relevant. Minimum of four years travel, lifestyle or brand marketing/PR experience. A background in fashion, music, entertainment a plus. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator a plus. Competence and working knowledge of online platforms. Clear communicator with ability to interact with snr leaders and key stakeholders. Excellent writing skills. Advanced computer skills in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook. Ability to manage, drive special projects and handle multiple concurrent tasks.
